VANDUSER -- Vanduser voters will be asked Tuesday to approve becoming a part of the Scott County Rural Fire Protection District.
"It's very important to our town," Harold Graviett, mayor of Vanduser, said of the ballot issue. "It's just come to the point where we can not afford to have our own fire department."
Vanduser has about 250 residents, Graviett said. "We are struggling to keep our fire department going for lack of funds, being a small town," he said. "We don't have enough manpower -- and I'd hate to have a fire and not be able to respond to it, maybe lose a life."
