HOLYOKE, Colo. -- The 13-15 year old Sikeston babe ruth baseball team was eliminated from the 2011 Babe Ruth Midwest Plains Regional Tournament in Holyoke, Colo., after losing both of their Sunday games.
Sikeston began the tournament with a 10-0 win Friday over North Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, in five innings.
Patrick Smith got the win on the mound for Sikeston. Smith pitched all five inning and had nine strike outs.
Although they opened the regional with a promising start, Sikeston's next game was the beginning of the end.
On Sunday, Sikeston lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Santa Fe, Colo., who defeated the Nebraska state champions 5-2 in their first game, in eight innings.
Sikeston turned right around and played that same day six and a half hours later against Bismarck, N.D., who ended their playoff run with a 13-3 loss.
