BENTON -- Scott County Democrats are looking for an interim county recorder.

"Our recorder of deeds, Tom Dirnberger, has passed away," said Larry Tetley, chairman of the Scott County Democratic Party Central Committee. "We will be interviewing qualified people who are interested in the position.

Dirnberger died Thursday.

Anyone interested in being appointed to the recorder's office should attend the meeting scheduled at 6 p.m Monday at the Scott County Courthouse.

Tetley said it is important that the position be filled immediately for real estate transactions and other business in the county.

Rita Milam, county clerk, said voters will elect a recorder to fill the remaining unexpired term during the next election cycle.

"Whoever the governor appoints will hold that position until Jan. 1, 2013," she said.

For more information, call Tetley at 471-8268.
