SIKESTON -- Social networking has brought back the oral history tradition in a big way.
Facebook is an Internet-based social networking service and website on which registered users can post information about themselves, their business or organization, exchange messages and receive automated updates on the activities of those added to a list of "friends."
A "Group" feature for those with a common interest to coordinate events or just have group conversations has been offered on the site for some time.
But "You know you are from" and "You know you grew up in" type groups have recently gone viral on Facebook with many of them being specific to a community.
"It's a trend that everybody's doing," said Kari K. Burden-Dorris, one of the two administrators of a group dedicated to Sikeston.
"You know you are from SIKESTON MO if......" was started by Anthony McCauley on Aug. 3.
McCauley, who settled down in Murrieta, Calif., after retiring from the U.S. Marine Corps, said he started seeing posts on his Facebook news feed from other communities and decided to look for one for his hometown.
