FARMINGTON -- Unable to overcome a late surge by the Farmington Knightettes on Monday, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs fell 7-2 in their season opener.
In their only lead of the contest, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first inning before Farmington came back in the second to tie things up.
Taking the lead for good, the Knightettes scored a pair of runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. Though Sikeston was able to close back to within two runs at 4-2 with a score in the top of the sixth, Farmington put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the frame to seal the game.
Leading the Lady Bulldogs' offensive effort, Madison Chaney and Sydney King both had a pair of hits on the game, including a double by King. Sarah Dixon, Taylor Fodge and Bayleah James each contributed a single.
Besides her offensive efforts, Lady Bulldogs' catcher King also caught a pair of runners trying to steal second on the contest.
Now at 0-1, Sikeston will travel to Perryville today where they will play the Lady Pirates at 4 p.m.
CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Lady Devils opened up their season with a win on Monday, defeating Neelyville 12-6.
Chaffee scored 12 runs on only five hits and scored in every inning, taking advantage of 12 Lady Tiger errors.
Sierra Miller collected a double for Chaffee while Hailey Enderle earned the win on the mound, allowing only five hits.
DELTA -- Delta got a strong pitching performance from Myra Henson and defeated Twin Rivers 5-2 to open the season on Monday.
Ciara Coomer went 2 for 2 with a double while Lyndse Hamby was 2 for 4 to lead the six hit Lady Bobcat attack. Tori Burton added a triple.
