Pilot walks away after crop duster crashes near Matthews

MATTHEWS -- A pilot walked away unscathed from a plane which crashed Monday evening.

At about 6 p.m. Monday, the Matthews Fire Department was alerted to a crop dusting plane which had crashed in a ditch off County Road 606, about a mile south of Matthews. According to Matthews Fire Chief T.J. Gantner, the pilot said he was taking off from the runway when the plane crashed.
