Scott City softball rolls to 12-1 victory

SCOTT CITY -- Backed by a one-hitter from starting pitcher Becky Burger, the Scott City Lady Rams defeated the Fredericktown Lady Cats 12-1 in five innings on the mercy rule.

Scoring two runs in the second and three in the third, the Lady Rams had build a built a 5-0 advantage going into the fifth.

Though the Lady Cats were able to break up the shutout to close to the gap to 5-1 in the top of the inning, the Lady Rams went on to score sevens runs in their half of the frame to end the game.

Leading the way for Scott City was Lyndsey Rendleman, Alexis Spriggs, Macy Hall, Brittany Kiefer and Burger, who had two hits apiece. Hall had the team's only extra-base hit, a double.

Going all five innings, Burger was a hit and an error from throwing a perfect game. The hit came in the form of a triple to lead off the fifth, followed by the error that helped Fredericktown score its only run. She didn't surrender a walk and struck out three.

Scott City (6-3) will host Poplar Bluff today at 4 p.m.
