Bulldogs lose in penalty kicks to ND

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Notre Dame emerged with the win on penalty kicks 1-0 Thursday night against Sikeston.

James Holloway stopped Sikeston's first attempt, and Notre Dame converted all four of its attempts.

"He did make a brilliant save on the PK," Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn said.

Matt Ponder, Jonathan Lynch, Aaron Arnzen and Luke Mocherman converted their penalty kicks for Notre Dame (3-2).

Sikeston (3-3) will host Perryville on Monday with junior varsity set for 5 p.m.

Lady Rams lose heartbreaker to PB

POPLAR BLUFF -- The Scott City Lady Rams lost a heartbreaker on Thursday falling to the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules 2-1 in walk-off fashion.

Leading 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, Poplar Bluff tied the game at one before going into the seventh and deciding inning.

The Lady Mules strung together three consecutive hits up the middle of the field to push the winning run across in the bottom of the seventh.

Alexis Spriggs ended up on the losing end for Scott City, although she did strike out 10 Poplar Bluff batters while walking none.

Lyndsie Robert led the Lady Rams (6-4) with two hits. Brittany Kiefer added a double.

Dexter takes straight set win over NMCC

NEW MADRID -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats defeated the New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles in straight sets 25-11, 25-6.

In the contest, Dexter's McKenzie Mitchell had three kills, six aces and three kills while going 19 for 19 on serves. Brittany Harris had three blocks, three kills and two digs while Erika Mouser led the team in digs with 14.

Lindsey Hindman had two kills, and ace and three digs while going 11 for 11 in serves.

Leading the Lady Bearcats in assists, Hannah Noe had 16 to go along with six digs, a kill and a block.

Earlier in the evening, the Lady Bearcats junior varsity defeated the Lady Eagles junior varsity in straight sets 25-9, 25-17.

Risco swats four home runs in win

RISCO -- With four home runs on Thursday, the Risco Tigers out-slugged visiting South Pemiscot for an 11-4 win.

"We swung the bats well and the guys were enjoying themselves," Risco coach Brandon Blankenship said. "It's nice to pick up two wins this week against quality teams like South Pemiscot and Naylor."

Holding a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth, Caleb McCord gave the Tigers a little breathing with a two-run home run to put Risco ahead 7-3.

When Risco came back up in the fifth, Austin White and Matt Cummins connected for back-to-back home runs to open the frame.

Capping the Tigers huge offensive effort, White came back in his next at bat in the sixth and hit a two-run shot over the fence to put Risco up 11-4.

White finished the game 2 for 3 with three runs batted in while also collecting a walk and reaching on an error. McCord went 3 for 3 with a walk and four runs scored and four runs batted in.

Chris Pavy and Luke Bixler had two hits each, including a double and two stolen bases by Pavy.

Improving to 4-4 on the season, Risco will travel to North Pemiscot to play in a round robin tournament this Saturday. They play Meridian, Ill., at 3 p.m. and North Pemiscot at 5 p.m.

Scott City volleyball sweep Lady Panthers

MEADOW HEIGHTS -- The Rams improved to 4-0 with a road sweep.

Scott City won both sets 25-18.

Katie Hogan led the way with 12 kills, and Whitney Froman had seven. Mikah Simpson had nine digs, while Sydney Short dished out 21 assists.

Erin Bollmann recorded 13 kills, and Whitney Welker added four for Meadow Heights.

Kelsey Kennedy put up six assists in the loss.

Bell City falls short against Bernie

BELL CITY -- Jasmine Johnson's five kills, five blocks and 15 digs weren't enough for the host Cubs as they fell to Bernie 18-25, 25-9, 25-20.

Colleen Maddox added four blocks, while Sierra Bradshaw had 31 assists in the loss.

Trisha Slagley added 23 assists for Bell City (2-3-1).
