Sikeston, Lady Jays are swept in tennis action

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- With Sikeston missing No. 1 player Kelsey Dial, the Lady Bulldogs dropped a match on the road to rival Notre Dame 9-0 on Monday.

Sikeston's Martha Neel and Kristin King both lost tight three-set matches. Sikeston will host Kennett on Thursday.

KENNETT (SMNS) -- The Kennett girls tennis team improved to 8-2 Monday with a 6-0 sweep against Charleston in girls tennis.

There were only four singles matches and two doubles matches Monday because Charleston brought four players to the contest. There was no junior varsity contest.

Kennett's Ann Kay Hilburn, who missed play due to an ankle injury last week, won her varsity singles match 8-2.

Kennett is back in action Tuesday when it hosts Caruthersville and will travel to play a key contest against district-rival Sikeston Thursday.
