JACKSON --The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs defeated the Saxony Lutheran Lady Crusaders on Wednesday, 14-3, on the mercy-rule.
Scoring a run each in the first four inning, the Lady Bulldogs broke loose with a seven-run rally in the fifth before scoring their final three runs in the sixth to put the mercy-rule in effect.
Maggie Shepherd was 2 for 3 on the contest with a walk and a double while Bayleah James contributed a bases loaded hit. Starting pitcher Paige Sailors picked up the win.
Looking to keep things rolling, Sikeston will host the Delta Lady Bobcats today at 4 p.m. on the Lady Bulldogs' annual Senior Night.
SCOTT CITY -- Backed by a complete game shutout from starting pitcher Alexis Spriggs on Tuesday, the Scott City Lady Rams pulled away for an 11-0 win over the Saxony Lutheran Lady Crusaders on Senior Night.
"It was great to send the seniors out with a win," Scott City coach Amy Pobst said. "We were able to get everyone some playing time and played a good game."
Taking control early, Scott City (12-9) rallied for four runs in the first frame before scoring a combined five runs in the next three innings. Leading 9-0, the Lady Rams scored their final two runs of the contest in the sixth on a triple by senior Brittany Kiefer to end the game on the mercy-rule.
In earning the win, Spriggs went the full six innings, allowing two hits and three walks while hitting a batter and striking out seven.
Tana Tetly finished the game 2 for 2 with a walk and a triple to lead Scott City while Kiefer contributed a single and a triple. Helping her own cause, Spriggs doubled in the contest.
