Sikeston netters fall in first round of districts

FREDERICKTOWN -- The Sikeston girls tennis team lost a heartbreaking match 5-4 to the Fredericktown Lady Blackcats on Monday in the first round of the Class 1, District 1 tennis tournament.

"It was a disappointing loss today at Fredericktown," said Sikeston coach Russ Dial. "We fought hard but committed too many errors to win."

Sikeston got wins from Kelsey Dial and Kristin King in singles while Dial teamed with Erneshia Bland for a doubles win. King and Bailey Coleman were also credited with a doubles win.

Sikeston is now eliminated from the team competition but will compete in the singles competition on Thursday in Sikeston.

No. 2 -- Anna Kisner (F) def. Bailey Coleman (F), 6-3, 6-3

No. 5 -- Kristin King (S) def. Makala Tremaine (F), 6-5, 6-5

No. 6 -- Courtney Holliday (F) def. Alana Ellis (S), 6-0, WD

Doubles

No. 1 -- Dial/Bland (S) def. Shafer/Newbrand (F), 6-4, 6-2

No. 2 -- Coleman/King (S) def. Kisner/Starkey (F), 6-2, 1-6, 2-2

No. 3 -- Tremaine/Holliday (F) def. Hooper/Ferrell (S), 6-1, 6-3

SOFTBALL

Perryville 8, Delta 4

DELTA -- Kelcie Fahnestock had three hits and picked up the win as the Perryville softball team picked up an 8-4 road victory against Delta on Monday.

Casey Hotop had a double and two hits for Perryville. Tiarra Sparkman and Alexis Sutterer also had two hits apiece.

Lyndse Hamby went 2 for 4 for Delta (5-13), while Lisa Lankford added two hits.

Ciara Coomer took the loss on the mound.

Jackson 10, Kelly 0

JACKSON -- Mollie Crader homered and had two RBIs in the Indians' five-inning home 10-0 win.

Melanie Dockins added two hits, while Mallory Jones was the winning pitcher.

Jones struck out three, walked one and allowed one hit for the Indians (11-13).
