BENTON -- Scott County Commissioners will pick a bridge engineer on Thursday.
Commissioners interviewed the last of four engineering firms for two upcoming Off-System Bridge Replacement Program projects during their regular meeting Tuesday.
The BRO program allocates Federal Highway Administration funding in Missouri through the Missouri Department of Transportation to counties based on each county's total number of bridges and the number of its deficient bridges.
The bridges to be replaced, which are located on County Road 468 just west of Highway 61 outside of Sikeston's city limits and on County Road 420 southwest of Oran near its intersection with County Road 417, are the county's last two wooden-top bridges.
A total of 11 firms responded to the request for qualifications posted by MoDOT on its website.
"You get them (submitting) from as far as Kansas City," Commissioner Dennis Ziegenhorn said.
Commissioners came up with a "short list" of four firms to call in for interviews.
County officials began the selection process by interviewing three engineering firms last Thursday.
