Wednesday, October 19, 2011

ADVANCE -- Keeping pace with a goal they set to begin the week, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs volleyball team defeated Advance on Tuesday night in three sets, 9-25, 25-17 and 25-21.

Sikeston's goal was to sweep their three opponents for the week, although it didn't start in a positive way.

The Lady Bulldogs (17-15) lost 25-9 in the first set.

"We put on a clinic for exactly what not to do in a volleyball game," Sikeston coach Steve Beydler said about their first set. "We didn't move our feel and we had bad passes. It was by far the worst game we've played this school year."

Despite the bad start, Sikeston bounced back in the second set after a quick reminder about their week's goal.

"I reminded them about what we wanted to do this week," Beydler said. "That got things going and we rallied in that second set."

Sikeston battled back from behind often in the third set, but pulled off the win, 25-21, behind an 11-kill performance by Trenice Greer. Greer totaled 14 kills overall and 13 assists as well.

Asia Liggins added seven kills and three blocks while Quesha Howard chipped in five kills and 10 assists. Jalen Peet had seven kills and three blocks.
