DEXTER -- Ed Gayle, 86, died Nov. 15, 2011, at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born May 24, 1925, at Littlefield, Texas, to the late Walter M. and Nannie Emma Ruth Gayle, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, the former owner of Gayle's Jewelry in Denver City, Texas for 47 years and a former city council member and mayor of Denver City. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart.
On May 18, 1948, at Denver City, he married Dolores O'Keeffe, and she survives of the home in Dexter.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Howard and DeVonna Gayle of Eastland, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Jay Lemons of Dexter; three sisters, Naomi Wisener of Tyler, Texas, Marie Galle of Jal, N.M., and Jean Poe of Denver City; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Gayle; and four brothers, Virgle Gayle, Alvin Gayle, Walt Gayle and Don Gayle.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of memorial services at 11 a.m Friday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Dr. Steve Easterwood officiating.
