CHARLESTON -- Mildred Thomas Morris, 78, died at 10:45 p.m. Nov. 12, 2011, at the Charleston Manor Skilled Nursing Center.
Born Jan. 5, 1933, in Charleston, to the late Grover and Mabel Bankhead Thomas, she attended Charleston Public Schools and was a graduate of the Licensed Practical Nurse School in Poplar Bluff. She worked many years for Dr. John Samples and Dr. T.P. Fenton. She was a member of Jehovah Witness congregations in East Prairie and Cairo, Ill.
On Feb. 11, 1967, she married Leon Morris who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1992.
She was also preceded in death by five sisters.
Survivors include: one brother, Sidney Charles Dixon of Charleston; one sister, Alice L. Dixon of Charleston; two stepsons, Michael Morris of Pulaski, Ill., and Leon Morris of Cairo, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Sandra Clemons of Cairo; and several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the Williams Funeral Home in Charleston with Roy LeBlanc officiating.
Cremains will be buried in the National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill., at a later date.
