DEXTER -- Larry Gene Matthews, 80, died Nov. 17, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Dexter.

Born June 18, 1931, in Sikeston, to the late Jack and Elsie Matthews, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter. He was a retired salesman of the American Tobacco Co. and worked as the zoning inspector for the City of Dexter for several years after his retirement.

On June 17, 1950, he married Arabella Peggy Matthews, who survives of the home in Dexter.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Barbara Matthews of Nixa and Bryce and Sherry Matthews of Dexter; a daughter-in-law, Melba Matthews of Springdale, Ark.; one brother, Lyman Matthews of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: one son, Randy Matthews; one sister, Irene Hunt; and five brothers, Jack Matthews, Reese Matthews, Joe Matthews, Jim Matthews and Johnny Matthews.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Dexter with the Rev. Mike Wood officiating.

Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Fruitland.
