Wednesday fire destroys Sikeston home

SIKESTON -- A Wednesday morning fire destroyed a Sikeston home.

Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a call at 9:22 a.m. Wednesday of a fire at the residence located at 410 Prosperity St., according to Lt. Bill Mygatt. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 9:35 a.m. and completely extinguished shortly before 10 a.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire; however, a kitten was safely brought out from the structure, Mygatt said.

Cause of the fire is believed to be related to a kitchen range and not suspicious, Mygatt said. Sikeston DPS was the only agency to respond to the scene.
