PORTAGEVILLE -- Although their overall record doesn't show it, the Portageville Lady Bulldogs will be banking on a late season improvement from last year to help propel them into the 2011-12 basketball season.
"We are excited about the upcoming season," Portageville coach Barry Branscum said. "We hope to gain on the experience we received last year, even though we are relatively young."
The Lady Bulldogs, who were runners-up in the Class 2, District 1 tournament last year after falling to Senath-Hornersville, lost four starters but have several returning with varsity playing time.
Seniors Latavia Harris and Allyson Walls as well as juniors Jennifer Ifland, Danielle Morgan, Taylor McCoy and Jenna Hawkins will take on the bulk of the load for Portageville.
"We are also excited to have a large group of freshman playing this year," Branscum said.
Portageville will begin their season in Gideon's Lady Bulldog Classic which kicks off on Nov. 28.
