EAST PRAIRIE -- Shirley Ruth Poore, 75, died at 3:35 p.m. Nov. 24, 2011, at her home.
Born Oct. 10, 1936, in Matthews, to the late Ely Walker and Rosie Evelyn Snow Hunt, she lived in Mississippi County most of her life. Retired from the Gates Rubber Company in Charleston where she was employed for over 20 years, she was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Sikeston.
On Aug. 8, 1982, at Gray Ridge, she married James Otto Poore who preceded her in death on March 4, 1982.
Two sons, Kart and Rodney Poore, one grandson, David Abner Jr., three brothers, Miles Hunt, T.W. "Tink" Hunt and Leaman Hunt, and four sisters, Lois Chapman, Opal Freeman, Dell Cohen and Layla Bye, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Sara Poore of Charleston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and David Abner of the home and Rosemary and Mike Newman of Sikeston; one sister, Violet Tatum of East Prairie; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled after 6 p.m. Saturday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday with Shelby Elliott and Roy LeBlanc of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness officiating.
Burial will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Chance Abner, Craig Poore Jr., Michael Newman, Natish Newman, Cody Huff and Quintin Huff.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Abner, Frank Cohen, James Smith, Edward Smith, Mike Newman and Chucky Huff.
