Charleston girls hold on for win over East Prairie

EAST PRAIRIE -- Opening their season on a high note, the Charleston Lady Bluejays took a two-point lead into half over the East Prairie Lady Eagles on Monday before holding on for a 59-54 win.

Charleston took a 15-12 lead after the first quarter with the Lady Eagles closing to within two at 28-26 by the end of the second frame.

Able to outscore East Prairie 15-11 in the third quarter, however, the Lady Bluejays were able to take a six point lead in to the fourth and maintain most of it until the final whistle.

Leading the way for Charleston, Kasuela Cooper had 24 points and 12 rebounds while E'Neikqua Ewing had 12 points and 13 rebounds.

For East Prairie, Rebekah Douglas finished the game with a team-high 18 points and was followed closely by Caitlyn Harwell with 17 points.

Next up, Charleston will host the Scott City Lady Rams on Thursday at 6 p.m.

SIKESTON -- Natalie Gremaud had 27 points, eight rebounds and six steals as the Lady Pirates (1-0) won on the road.

Courtney Borden added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Morgan Mueller had nine rebounds and six steals.

Katlyn Lukefahr collected seven points and seven rebounds in the win.

Mikaela Blissett led the Bravettes (0-1) with 19 points, while Johniqua Fort had 16 points.

No. 6 seed Notre Dame lost to No. 3 Dexter 65-57 in the first round of the Farmington tournament.

Brittany Harris led Dexter (1-0) with 15 points while Alison Jarrell had 13 and Hannah Noe 10.

Summer Burger led the Bulldogs (0-1) with 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals.

Brooke Bohnert had 12 points and six rebounds, while Shelby Beussink added 11 points and five steals.

Dexter will now take on No. 2 Poplar Bluff in the semifinals.
