ESSEX -- George Leon Baker, 94, died Dec. 1, 2011, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Oct. 23, 1917, in Dexter, to the late William S. Baker and Florence Kirby, he was a member of the Essex United Methodist Church, Bloomfield Masonic Lodge and Essex Lions Club.

On Oct. 2, 1939, in Poplar Bluff, he married Ruth Virginia Taylor who preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 2000.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers, John Dale Baker, R.D. Baker, Gervis Baker, Homer Baker and Ralph Baker, and one sister, Opal Wrinkel.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Olivia Ann and Doug Zunkel of Vancouver, Wash.; two grandchildren, Kenneth Baker Zunkel of Knoxville, Tenn., and Lea Ann Metting of Austin, Texas; and one great-granddaughter, Bonnie Taylor Metting of Austin, Texas.

Visitation is scheduled from noon until time of services at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with the Revs. Roy Sherfield and Ernie Rodgers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
