Oran gets by Malden in OT for third place

ORAN -- The Oran Eagles needed an extra four minutes to put them away, but they did just that as they took care of the Malden Green Wave 62-58 in overtime during the third place game of the Oran Invitational Tournament.

After two chances at ended it in regulation failed, the Eagles took the lead with two minutes remaining in overtime after a basket by Kody Moore made it 59-58.

A steal by Seth Ressel, who immediately sprinted towards his basket to lay it in, put Oran up by three.

A missed chance by Malden led to them fouling Alex Heuring who sank 1 of 2 free throws with 56 seconds left to give them their four-point cushion, and eventually, the win.

"We quit turning the ball over," Oran coach Joe Shoemaker said about what pointed to his teams overtime win. "We rebounded better and our defensive intensity picked up."

Heuring led the Eagles with 19 points. Ressel chipped in another 14.

Bell City 70, Kelly 52

The Bell City Cubs won the consolation final 70-52 over Kelly.

The Cubs raced out to a 20-10 lead after one and stretched the advantage to 43-17 at halftime and never looked back.

Jared Yates had 16 to lead Bell City (2-1) while Jeff Gates had a game-high 22 to pace Kelly (1-2).
