NEW MADRID - Mildred Marie Chartrau Halford Hartwell, 88, died at 6:45 a.m. Dec. 3, 2011, in the Golden Living Nursing Center at New Madrid.
Born May 3, 1923, in New Madrid County to the late Emma and Everett Chartrau, she lived most of her life in New Madrid County and was a member of the First Baptist Church at New Madrid. She was employed by the Missouri Division of Aging for 20 years as a social worker and was the owner and manager of the Freeze Queen and Chat and Chew in New Madrid for 25 years.
On Nov. 1, 1941, she married Paul Halford, who preceded her in death on March 11, 1986. On Nov. 1, 1996, she married George R. "Bud" Hartwell, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Shelia Halford of Risco; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Rickey Neal of New Madrid; three grandsons, Keith (Nina) Neal, Ryan (Kristen) Halford and John Paul Halford; two great-grandsons, Jacob Neal and Joshua Neal and a great-granddaughter, Annasten Halford; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Letha Chartrau; five brothers, Alvin, Doyne, Harry, John and Pete Chartrau; and two sisters, Virginia and Dorothy.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today at the Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in New Madrid with the Rev. Gene Lancaster officiating.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Keith Neal, Ryan Halford, John Paul Halford and great-grandsons, Jacob Neal, Joshua Neal and Christian Hunter.
