SIKESTON -- A stabbing early today at a Sikeston bar injured at least two people and remains under investigation.
About 1:20 a.m. today Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a call in reference to a disturbance with a weapon at Cheers Bar and Grill, located at 1212 Linn St, according to a news release from Lt. Jim McMillen of DPS. Police were told one subject was armed with a knife and fighting staff members.
Upon their arrival, police found one employee holding down the suspect -- who was holding a knife in his hands -- in front of the business, according to the release. The employee told the officers that the suspect had just stabbed another person, McMillen said.
Officers then detained the suspect and removed the knife from his hand.
Two employees received injuries, which are believed to be not life-threatening.
A 26-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to DPS headquarters, where he is awaiting charges through the Scott County Prosecutor's Office.
