Bridge removal cost comes in lower than expected

CHARLESTON -- A local excavator is hoping there isn't more to a bridge removal project than he figured on.

Mississippi County commissioners opened bids for the removal of the County Road 310 bridge from the bottom of the ditch during their regular meeting Thursday.

The bridge was displaced from its footings by floodwaters during the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' activation of the Birds Point-New Madrid Floodway in the spring.
