MATTHEWS -- Gladys P. Simmons, 89, died at 8 p.m. Dec. 18, 2011, in the Charleston Manor.
Born March 6, 1922, in New Madrid County, to the late Jessie Dalton and Dovie Jane Wood Douglas, Gladys lived in New Madrid County all of her life. She was a member of the Full Gospel Church in East Prairie.
On Oct. 9, 1939, in New Madrid, she married Elmer Simmons who preceded her in death on July 13, 1982.
She was also preceded in death by: one son, Jerry Simmons; two daughters, Linda Van Hoy and Carol Conrad; two sisters, Mildred Douglas and Nettie Cauner; two stepsisters, Lucille Douglas and Normal Humphrey; one brother Glen Douglas; two grandsons, Todd Watson and Jonthan Randall; and two sons-in-law, Charles Hale and Buddy Randall.
She is survived by: three sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Stella Simmons of East Prairie, Albert and Jo Ann Simmons of Sikeston and Anthony Keith and Connie Simmons of Diehlstadt; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Gracie Hale of St. Louis, Juanita Randall of Charleston, Loretta and Carlos DeLassantos of St. Louis, Helen and M.L. Watson of Overland, Cathy and Gene Conrad of Sunrise Beach and Shena Williams and Alma Ross of Dexter; one brother, Vernon Douglas of Charleston; three sisters, Imogene Martin of Truxton, Hettie Rogers of Lilbourn and Opal Hahn of Charleston; and 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday with Mike Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
