BROSELEY -- Holding Doniphan scoreless for nearly the entire first quarter, top-seeded Dexter strolled to an easy 78-22 win on Monday to advance to the semifinals of the Lady Royals Christmas Classic Tournament.

"I forget what the stats were for field goal percentage, but I think we shot around 57 percent and held them (in the 20s)," Dexter head coach Chad Allen said. "Our girls did a tremendous job defensively tonight.

"Not only in full court in the first half, but the second half in our half court defense that was probably the best we'd played all year."

After forcing the Donnettes to call a timeout by going up 8-0 with 4:52 to play in the first frame, the Lady Bearcats continued to roll with a basket from Brittany Harris and a layup from Katelynn Frazier pushing Dexter up by 12.

While still maintaining the shutout, Paige Patterson, Mollie Whitehead and Frazier added a bucket each to Dexter's cause to pull ahead 18-0.

It wasn't until eight seconds were left in the frame that Sinora Morhman connected on a shot to put the Donnettes on the board as they left the first quarter trailing 18-2.

The two squads each scored a basket early in the second frame before Dexter went on a 10-0 run as they pushed towards a commanding 49-16 lead at the half.

Coming back out in the third quarter, Dexter was able to build a 72-21 advantage going into the final quarter thanks in part to eight points from Hannah Noe and six from Harris.

With the turbo clock running, the Lady Bearcats sealed their ticket to the semifinals.

With a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds, Harris led the way for Dexter while

Whitehead, Noe and Patterson contributed 14 each.

"We definitely outsized them inside with Patterson and Harris," Allen said. "We got the ball inside to them and they had a big night because of it."

Raven Sturgeon had a team-high seven points for Doniphan with Morhman and Micah Smith contributing six and three points respectively.

With the win the Lady Bearcats move on to play Neelyville, who defeated Naylor 56-48, in the semifinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Also on Wednesday, Doniphan will play Naylor at 3 p.m.
