SIKESTON -- This New Year's Eve Sikeston Public Safety will be cracking down on traffic violators, particularly those driving while drunk.
On Saturday, DPS will take the initiative to step up enforcement on traffic violators, Lt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for DPS, said in a news release.
"We will be concentrating our efforts on those drivers who insist on driving while impaired," McMillen said. "We want our area motorists to feel secure when they're traveling on our roadways. Driving while intoxicated is a serious offense."
Each year, over 6,000 people are killed or injured on Missouri roads and highways in alcohol-related crashes.
