East Prairie schools help area with clothing, toy drive

EAST PRAIRIE -- Charity may begin in the home but a local community was happy to expand that circle.

East Prairie Schools continued their tradition this year of helping struggling families in the district and the surrounding areas by holding a clothing and toy drive in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

"This was our 11th year," said Margaret Ann Mhoon, a teacher for East Prairie Schools who organized the annual event.

While items collected go out to families in neighboring communities such as Charleston, Wyatt, Sikeston, Benton, Scott City, Cape Girardeau and beyond, the drive was started to help families within the school district.
