NEW MADRID - Steven Arthur St. Mary Sr. passed away on Dec. 31, 2011, at the age of 92.
He was born on July 12, 1919, in New Madrid to the late June St. Mary and Jenny Broughton St. Mary. He was a veteran, having served our country in the Army, as a staff sergeant during WWII. He was employed by Noranda Aluminum until his retirement in July 1985 and was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and a grandson, Jimmy Joe Akins.
On Aug. 26, 1948, he married Allie Marie Wathen St. Mary, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by two sons, Steve St. Mary and his wife, Kathy, of Portageville and Bill St. Mary and his wife, Mary, of Chaffee; two daughters, Marie Phillips and her husband, Don, of Portageville and Betty Akins and her husband, Jimmy, of Candler, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Melissa Fowler, Angela Eftink, Barrett St. Mary, Amy Moylan, Beth Richardson, Ronnie Akins, Shawn Akins, Eric St. Mary and Chad St. Mary; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are John LaValle, Buck Hunter, Ronald Pipkin, Mark Baker, Lee Hunter, and Roger Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers are Howard Ed Crisler, Dick St. Mary, Dr. Charles Baker and Pete Taylor.
Visitation was Jan. 1 with funeral services at 11 a.m. Jan. 2 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Madrid.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
