Scott City boys, NMCC girls roll on Tuesday

SCOTT CITY -- The Scott City Rams ended a two-game losing streak by dismantling South Pemiscot 64-26 at home on Tuesday.

"It was a total team effort and a lot of guys contributed," Scott City coach Mark Dannenmueller said. "I was real proud of the way our guys responded after losing our last two games to Jackson and Charleston."

Scott City led 18-9 after one and 33-13 at halftime and were never challenged in the second half.

Leading the way for the Rams was Zach Cotner who finished with 24. Ryan Brock added 13.

Scott City (8-4) will be back in action on Friday when travel to Chaffee.

KENNETT -- The Kennett Indians kept their recent strong play going and ended Malden's three-game winning streak in the process, downing the Green Wave 57-44.

After holding a slim 12-10 lead after one, Kennett took control in the second quarter and led 25-15 at halftime before pulling away in the second half.

Antonio Primer led Kennett with 17 points while Jujuan Wallace had 14. Romello McCoy led Malden with 18 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

NMCC 69, Portageville 39

PORTAGEVILLE -- The New Madrid County Central girls basketball team improved to 7-4 on Tuesday night with a 69-39 win over Portageville.

Karen McGloson led the Lady Eagles with 27 points while Benesha Childress added 16.

Both McGloson and Childress led NMCC to a win on Monday night as well, defeating the Hayti Lady Indians 79-35.

McGloson scored 30 points to lead NMCC while Childress finished with 27.

Delta New Year's Tournament

DELTA (SMNS) -- St. Vincent, Delta and Woodland all posted first-round victories at the Delta New Yearıs girls basketball tournament Tuesday.

Second-seeded St. Vincent advanced to tonightıs semifinals with a 52-31 victory against No. 7 Scott County Central.

Kayla Seabaugh scored 16 points for the Indians, while Kattie Mattingly contributed 14 points.

Johniqua Fort netted 11 points for the Braves.

St. Vincent will meet No. 3 Delta, which defeated No. 6 Chaffee 48-32, in the semis.

Machela VanGennip had 24 points, six rebounds and six assists in Deltaıs victory. Macey Parks added 10 points for the Bobcats.

Jordi Pruitt paced Chaffee with 23 points.

Fourth-seeded Woodland advanced to a semifinal meeting with top-seeded Meadow Heights with a 63-48 win against No. 5 Saxony Lutheran.

Josie Long led Woodland with 22 points. Kendra Pinkley added 19 points,

While Kathlyn Cooper had 10.

Natalie Mueller scored 16 points for the Crusaders. Maci Daniel added 14 points.

Tournament play continues today when Scott County Central and Chaffee meet in a 4:30 p.m. consolation semifinal. Meadow Heights and Woodland will follow at 6 p.m., and Delta and St. Vincent will play at 7:30 p.m.

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston freshman returned from a three-week layoff to defeat the Jackson Indians 61-49 on Tuesday night.

Sikeston trailed 15-12 after a quarter but used a big second quarter to take a 35-29 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs then continued to build on their lead in the second half to win going away.

Zach Jackson led Sikeston with 20 points while Corbyn Blissett added 11.
