Notre Dame thumps Dexter boys; Charleston girls roll

DEXTER -- The Dexter Bearcats fell victim to the Notre Dame Bulldogs on Thursday, 81-53, at the Bearcat Event Center in Dexter.

Notre Dame's Joe Siebert poured in 25 points while Nathan Meystedt added 18.

D.J. Dowdy led the Bearcats with 10 points.

Dexter (3-9) fell behind 14-7 after the first quarter and 36-23 at the half. Notre Dame blew the game open in the third outscoring the home team 24-15.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Charleston 59, Caruthersville 41

CARUTHERSVILLE -- The Charleston Lady Bluejays came back from Christmas break on fire, taking a 19-0 lead over Caruthersville after one quarter and rolling to a 59-41 win.

Charleston led 39-9 at the half and held a comfortable lead the entire second half.

E'Neikqua Ewing led Charleston with 20 points while Kasuela Cooper and Sierra Frazier added 17 and 16 respectively.

"We played well," Charleston coach Josh Thompson said. "We got a huge lead and that allowed us to work on new things. I was pleased with the effort."

Charleston (5-4) will be back in action on Monday in the Scott-Miss Tournament where they will take on Kelly at 7 p.m.

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston freshman basketball team lost a road game to Cape Central 43-33 on Thursday night.

Trailing just 29-27 after three quarters, Cape Central pulled away in the fourth to claim the win.

Corbyn Blissett had 17 to lead Sikeston who will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Dexter.

Sikeston trailed 21-19 at halftime but Cape Central extended their lead in both the third and fourth quarters.

Jaylen Mallory led Sikeston with 15 points while Dominique Dyes had 14.

Sikeston (8-2) will host Jackson on Monday.
