NATCHITOCHES, La. -- Daniel T. "Tom" Murchison, 75, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died Jan. 7, 2012.
Born Oct. 26, 1936, in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Dan and Margaret Murchison, he had practiced law in Natchitoches since 1963 and served as city attorney for more than three decades. He was named Outstanding Young Lawyer of Louisiana in 1973 and was a voting member for many years of the Louisiana Law Institute. He grew up in Sikeston then earned a bachelor's degree from Union University in Jackson, Tenn. He received his law degree from Tulane University, where he graduated first in his class in 1962 and served as editor of the Tulane Law Review. He was active in numerous civic, religious and professional organizations including the Jaycees, Lions Club and state, local and national Bar associations. He was honored by the local Chamber of Commerce as Natchitoches Parish Man of the Year and was cited for numerous pro bono services to the community. A founding member of the Natchitoches Area Dixie Youth organization, he coached youth baseball, basketball and track teams for many years. He was an ordained deacon at the First Baptist Church of Natchitoches and was a Sunday School teacher for the Couples Too class for more than 27 years.
Survivors include: his wife, Vicki Murchison; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Daniel T. and Gretchen Murchison Jr., Timothy Glenn Murchison and William Tyler and Sally Murchison; two sisters, Dr. Lynne Murchison of Oxford, Miss., and Judy Kirby of Memphis; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Natchitoches where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Burial will follow in the American Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: James Kirby, Matthew Kirby, Andrew Kirby, Kipper Dillow, Garrett Murchison, Ian Murchison, Jacob Murchison, Sidney Frederick and Boyd White.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Couples Too class, members of the Gerousia and numerous others.
