HARRISBURG, Ark. -- Mrs. Harriet (Smith) Brietz of Harrisburg departed this life Monday, Jan. 9, 2012.
She was born June 15, 1914, at Harrisburg, the daughter of W. Judson and Fannie (Hunn) Smith. She was married to Clarence Edwin Brietz on Nov. 25, 1933, and they enjoyed 40 years together until his death in February 1974.
She was a resident of Harrisburg and Jonesboro and a member of First United Methodist Church all her life. Mrs. Brietz worked at the Bank of Harrisburg for several years. She retired from Farmers Home Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture after 30 years of service. She was also a member of the Mother's Club, Progressive Century Club and very instrumental in starting the Booster Club for the band. Mrs. Brietz was a homemaker and a very devoted wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W. Judson and Fannie (Hunn) Smith; her husband of 40 years, Clarence Edwin Brietz; one brother, W.J. Smith; and one sister, Georgia Frayser.
She is survived by: one son, Charles Brietz and wife, Ann of Harrisburg; one daughter, Cathy Fakes and husband, Jim of Sikeston, Mo.; one brother, Horace Smith and wife, Doris of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, Charles D. Brietz and Becky of Paragould, Deanna Allen and husband, Andy of Pocahontas, Carrie Dail of Harrisburg, Blake Brietz and wife, Lindsay of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lee Bethune and wife, Shannon of Jonesboro, Clay Bethune and wife, Elly of Columbia, Mo., Sara Gerau and husband, Brian of Jackson, Mo.; and 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at Harrisburg Memorial Park.
