DEXTER - Delmer R. Barks, 82, died Jan. 14, 2012, at the Missouri Southern Healthcare.
Born Aug. 24, 1929, in Lowndes, son of the late David Ransom and Minnie Ann Hardesty Barks, he was raised in Wayne County and resided in Dexter since 1962. He began a teaching career at the Frye School, a one-room school house in Wayne County, and later was a teacher, coach and a principal for the Greenville Schools. He worked as a Missouri Conservation agent, an auctioneer and a contractor and was a member of the Corinth General Baptist Church in Lowndes.
On March 27, 1947, he married Darlene June Rogers. On Oct. 5, 1985, in Dexter, he married Peggy Lacey Young, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Delmer R. and Debbie Barks of Lowndes and Kevin L. and Tera Barks of Dexter; one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Larry McAnally of East Bernard, Texas; three stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Kenneth Young and Tim Young of Dexter and Kelly and Kim Young of Bentonville, Ark.; one stepdaughter, Donna Warren of Columbia; one sister, Wilma Lewis of Farmington; and one nephew raised as his brother, Don Schatz of Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Schatz, and four other siblings in infancy.
Services were conducted today at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Jack Rogers of Lowndes and the Rev. Steve Easterwood of Dexter officiated.
Burial followed in the Corinth Cemetery in Lowndes.
