Tuesday, January 17, 2012

ROCKWOOD -- The Sikeston wrestling team saw several players put together good performances in the Rockwood Tournament on Saturday, as the Bulldogs placed seventh in the 11-team event.

Senior Blake Angle won the event in the 120 pound division, defeating Nick Solter of Washington 9-1 in the championship.

"Blake Angle wrestled extremely well," said Sikeston coach Seth Harrell. "He wrestled as good as he ever has. He was the fourth seed and knocked off two state ranked kids. He did a great job of creating momentum early in his matches by scoring the first takedown."

Kenton Robinson finished second in the 138 pound division, falling 7-2 in the title match to Whitfield's Austin Smith.

"Kenton put together another good tournament, Harrell said. "He lost to a returning state placer in his championship match. That's only his second loss of the year."

Austin Henson (195), Clayton Driskill (220) and Ben Walker (285) all finished third while Jacob Stinnett (132) placed fifth. Cody Middleton (126) and Nick Nichols (182) finished sixth and Christian Crumpecker (160) finished seventh.

"Our upper weights also wrestled well this weekend," Harrell said. "Austin Henson, Clayton Driskill, and Ben Walker finished out the tournament for us with three straight wins in their third place matches. That was awesome to watch."
