NEW MADRID -- Jimmie "Dean" Hornback, 68, died Jan. 10, 2012, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born April 3, 1943, in Kewanee, to the late Willie and Floyd Hornback, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a merchant mariner on barges on the Mississippi River for Ingram Barge Lines; as a farmhand; and as a water and antenna tower rigger.
Survivors include: a son, Jim Alexson of Anchor Point, Alaska; one daughter, Lori Stratford of Phoenix; one brother, Lynn Hornback of Henderson, Nev.; and two sisters, Javada Householder of Scott City, Mo., and Dinah Vavak of Ironton, Mo.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd "Bill" Hornback.
Services with full military rites will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. The Rev. L.L. Williams of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church will officiate. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 28 at the American Legion post in New Madrid.
