SIKESTON -- Billy J. Vinson, 74, died Jan. 21, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Jan. 9, 1938, in Paducah, Ky., to the late James and Esther Minton Vinson, he was a member of the Salcedo Baptist Church and after retiring from Alcoa Aluminum in 1987 owned and operated a furniture and appliance store. A staff sergeant serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, he was a member of the American Legion and VFW, where he was a past commander.
On April 23, 1960, in Cairo, Ill., he married Jo Ann Green who survives of the home in Sikeston.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: one daughter, Vicki Batts of Ripley, Tenn.; one son, Michael Vinson of Bement; two brothers, Jerry Vinson of Portageville and Terry Vinson of Cairo; one sister, Ruby Dillard of Henderson, Ky.; three grandchildren, Billy Fritz, Jonathan Fritz and Jacob Batts; and one great-grandchild, Seth Fritz.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Jan. 23, at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Kelley Grubbs, pastor of Murray Lane Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment with full military honors will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
