Lady Bluejays drop heartbreaker, Woodland pounces SCC

CHARLESTON -- Cape Central's Apolonia Thomas personally sank the Charleston Lady Bluejays on Monday night at Charleston High School.

With just 2.2 seconds left, Thomas, who ended up with eight points, hit a game-winning 3-pointer to defeat the Lady Bluejays 64-61.

"Our defense was pretty good, but in spurts it wasn't," Charleston head coach Josh Thompson said. "The end of the game was one of those spurts."

Charleston held a 35-32 lead at halftime but relinquished that advantage by the end of the third quarter, 45-44.

The Lady Bluejays ended up tying the game at 61 with a 3-pointer of their own with just seven seconds left, but Thomas' heroics came shortly after.

Kasuela Cooper led Charleston (8-7) with a game-high 31 points. Dazique Gillespie, who sank three 3-pointers, added 13 points.

Cape Central was paced by Chelsea Vinson who scored 22 points. Alayah Cooper-Johnson chipped in 18.

BENTON -- Outscoring South Pemiscot in the fourth quarter, the Kelly Lady Hawks came back to defeat the Lady Bulldogs 75-69.

Kelly (3-9) fell behind 54-51 after three quarters of play but put up 24 points to South Pemiscot's 15 in the fourth.

Bridgette Chandler led Kelly with 21 points. Tessa Johnson added 14 while Logan Ivie scored 12.

MARBLE HILL -- The Woodland Cardinals exploded for 22 points in the first quarter en route to a 70-47 win over the Scott County Central Bravettes on Monday night.

While scoring 22, Woodland held the Bravettes to just five points in the first frame building a comfy lead.

The Lady Cardinals led 35-20 at halftime.

Derien Ditto led Scott Central (3-7) with 14 points. Johniqua Fort scored 10 and Mikaela Blissett had nine in the loss.

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Lady Devils used a huge first quarter to their advantage on Monday against visiting Puxico, defeating the Lady Indians 59-14.

The Lady Devils (4-10) outscored Puxico 24-3 in the first eight minutes and held a comfortable 38-7 lead at the half.

Chaffee's Ellie Sigman scored a game-high 20 points in the win. Jordan Pruitt added 11.
