HAYWOOD CITY -- Walter Hill Jr., 77, died Jan. 19, 2012, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born May 30, 1934, in Yazoo City, Miss., to the late Walter and Jessie Bell Taylor Hill Sr., he was of the Baptist belief and attended HCT High School in Mississippi. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 and served in Germany. He was employed at Bethlehem Steel Company in Buffalo, N.Y., and moved in 1984 to Haywood City where he served as city marshal until his retirement.
He is survived by: two sons, Walter Hill III of the state of Minnesota and Wilbur Hill of the state of North Carolina; three daughters, Sandra Moore and Antoinette Green of Woodbridge, Va., and Gloria Jean Thomas of Buffalo; four brothers, the Rev. T.J. Hill of Memphis, Tenn., and Paul Hill, Spence Hill and Lewis Hill of the state of Florida; four sisters, Rosa Lee Harris of Sikeston, Maggie Walker of Milwaukee, Dorothea Moore of the state of Arkansas and Lucille Moore of the state of California; 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and his caretaker and special great-niece, Tonia Blissett.
Visitation is scheduled from noon until time of services at 1 p.m. Friday at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Haywood City with his brother, the Rev. T.J. Hill, officiating.
Burial with full military rites will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
The Williams Funeral Home of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
