RISCO -- The Risco Tigers won a thrilling Tri-County Conference game over Gideon 86-85 on Tuesday night, despite seven points in the last 40 seconds from the Bulldogs' Andy Rinehart.

Holding an 83-78 lead with under a minute to play, Rinehart hit a jumper from the wing to cut the lead to 83-80. After a Risco turnover, Gideon hoisted a 3-pointer that was off the mark but grabbed the offensive rebound and kicked to Rinehart who hit a three to tie the game at 83-83.

With the game tied with under 15 seconds to play, Risco's Chris Pavy streaked down the floor and was fouled sending him to the line with two shots. Pavy made the back end of the two free throws, giving Risco a slim 84-83 lead.

Out of timeouts, Gideon inbounded the ball to Rinehart who was fouled with 7.1 seconds remaining. After a Risco timeout, Rinehart drained both free throws to give the Bulldogs an 85-84 lead. Rinehart finished with a game-high 35 points as Gideon hit an astounding 22 of 23 free throws in the game.

Without calling timeout, Risco inbounded the ball to Pavy who drove the length of the floor and pulled up inside the free throw and falling backward after contact was able to get a shot off that hit the back of the rim and fell through the net at the buzzer giving Risco the 86-85 win.

"Kids on both sides stepped up and made plays," said Risco coach Brandon Blankenship. "Gideon had a good game plan. They have got a lot of size and they are physical."

Risco fell behind early, trailing the Bulldogs 28-19 after the first quarter and 44-39 at halftime before coming alive in the second half.

"Gideon came out ready to play and we were lackadaisical," Blankenship said. "The kids are going to have to realize that we are going to have to come out ready to play from the start."

Jordon Pavy led Risco with 24 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Chris Pavy finished with 23 including nine fourth quarter points while Luke Bixler added 18.

Jeremey Fowler returned from an ankle injury and scored 11 points, all in the first quarter.

"It was great to get Jeremey back," Blankenship said. "He isn't back to 100 percent yet but he is getting closer and he gave us a real lift when he came in the game."

With the win, Risco is now 13-2 on the season and 5-1 in the Tri-County Conference. The Tigers will host Southland for homecoming on Friday night.

In junior varsity play Tuesday, Risco defeated Gideon 65-28 behind 20 points and four 3-pointers from Josh Earnheart. Risco improves to 6-4 on the season and 5-1 in conference.
