Sikeston 9th graders place third in tourney; end season 11-3

JACKSON -- The Sikeston freshman basketball team recovered from a slow start to defeat Poplar Bluff 41-33 in the third place game of the Jackson Tournament on Saturday.

Sikeston fell behind 8-4 after one quarter but rallied to take a 23-16 lead into halftime as the Bulldogs' Zach Jackson and Hunter Taylor combined to score 13 of the Bulldogs' 18 points in the frame.

The Bulldogs held on in the second half, despite poor free throw shooting that saw Sikeston hit 13 of 33 free throws in the game that featured 45 fouls.

Jackson led Sikeston with 13 points while Corbyn Blissett finished with 11.

Sikeston finishes the season with a record of 11-3.
