Dexter girls rout Doniphan; Chaffee boys roll into MVC Tourney semifinals

DONIPHAN -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats opened up a 49-12 lead at halftime and defeated Doniphan 79-30 on the road Monday night.

Dexter jumped on top early, as the Lady Bearcat press put Doniphan in a 28-6 hole after the first quarter and the Donettes were unable to recover. Doniphan was playing without their starting point guard, Megan Hipps.

Dexter put four players in double figures, led by Brittany Harris' 20 points. Erika Cobb scored 17 points, including 11 in the third quarter, while Hannah Noe and Alison Jarrell finished with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Dexter (17-2) is back in action tonight when the host Meadow Heights who is ranked sixth in Class 2.

Meadow Heights 73, Delta 31

DELTA --The Panthers led 44-18 at halftime and sailed to defeat Delta 73-31 on the road Monday night.

Erin Bollmann netted 31 points, while Whitney Welker added 26 points, including two 3-pointers, for Meadow Heights.

Tori Burton scored 13 points to lead the Bobcats (8-8).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Chaffee 72, Marquand 26

PATTON -- Chaffee got 21 points, including three 3-pointers, from Alex Crowe in its 72-26 win over Marquand in the first round of the Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament.

Peyton Montgomery added 11 points, while Jordan Yahn contributed 10 points for the No. 2 seed Red Devils (10-8).

Chaffee will face Oak Ridge in today's 8:30 p.m. semifinal, following the night's first semifinal between Leopold and Zalma at 7 p.m.

The Blue Jays took care of host Meadow Heights 62-26.

Oak Ridge led 37-9 at halftime and never looked back.

Ryan Below led the Blue Jays with 20 points, while Jake LeGrand added 16 points and Kyle Rohde chipped in 12.

Daylan Davis paced the Panthers with 15 points.

In other action on Monday, Zalma upset Greenville 69-67 in overtime and Oak Ridge routed host Meadow Heights 62-23.
