OAKLAND, Calif. -- Alex Axel "Maxie" Cooper Jr., 53, died Jan. 27, 2012.
Born Oct. 29, 1958, to Alex Axel Cooper Sr. of Hayti and the late Arthur Louise Cooper, he was a 1976 graduate of Hayti Public Schools. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in political science from Westminster College in Fulton, in 1980, and in 2002, he received a culinary arts cooking degree from Laney College. He was a U.S. Army veteran and held several jobs including site supervisor at McKesson Headquarters in San Francisco. He was member of the Prince Hall Mason Wardell Lodge 157 and of the Methodist belief.
In addition to his father, he is survived by: two brothers, Calvin Cooper of Chicago and Dr. William Cooper of Atlanta; and two sisters, Janice Hall of Hayti and Shirley Sanders of Jefferson City.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Hayti.
The Williams Funeral Home of Howardville is in charge of arrangements.
