DEXTER -- Shirley Kathryn Taylor, 83, died Feb. 2, 2012, at her home.
Born Dec. 16, 1928, in Lake City, Ark., to the late William Lemuel and Glorvinna "Jo" Thornburgh Medlin, she was an artist, painting primarily in oil and watercolor. Her work was exhibited in art shows and galleries in Missouri, Arkansas and Kentucky during the 1960s and '70s. She also gave private painting lessons to local students. A graduate of Dexter High School, she worked for three years at the Indiana State Farm Bureau.
On Oct. 9, 1949, at Hornersville, she married James Mack "Jim" Taylor who preceded her in death on April 29, 1979.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, James Lee Medlin.
She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mary Ann Taylor of Dexter; one daughter, Kyra Taylor of Dexter; and one grandson, Mack Taylor of Dexter.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dexter Cemetery. The Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
