SIKESTON -- Lucille Hastings Pruett, age 97, currently residing in a care facility in Aurora, Ill., and formerly of Sikeston, died Feb. 2, 2012, at Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 24, 1914, in Sikeston, to the late William and Maudie Hastings. Lucille lived in the area known as Big Opening most of her adult life and was a member of the Little Vine General Baptist Church.
Married to Dorsey Paul Pruett on Nov. 24, 1932, Lucille and Dorsey (D.P.) were married for 61 years, with most of their time spent on the farm, until the time Dorsey preceded her in death in June 1996. Mrs. Pruett was an avid gardener proudly growing and preserving most foods found on her table.
Mrs. Pruett is survived by one daughter, June (Steve) Nilles or Aurora; one daughter-in-law, Betty June (Bobby) Pruett of Alexandria, Ind.; one sister, Modena Hastings of Sikeston; one brother, Donald (Geneva) Hastings of Sikeston; along with seven grandchildren, including Janet (Morris) Savage of Anderson, Ind., Steve (Jenny) Pruett of Alexandria, Mark Pruett of Ashland, Ky., Marie (Jeff) Arnold of Anderson, William Elledge of Hanover Park, Ill., Richard (Jil) Elledge of Winona Lake, Ind., and Beth (Mike) Hoorelbek of Newark, Ill. Mrs. Pruett is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Pruett was preceded in death by two children, Shirley Ann Morgan in 1967 and Bobby Gene Pruett in August 2011. She was also preceded in death by a brother and six sisters including William Hastings, Dorothy (John) Alley, Leta (Joe) Settles, Opal (R.G.) Pruett. Mary (Tennie) Hopper, Lizzie (John) Campbell and Ozeal (Wallace) Jones. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends and family may call at Ponder Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 4 beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a memorial service following at 2 p.m.
Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
