The 2011-12 United Way campaign far and away surpassed its goal, this year bringing in a record-setting $110,901.82. That is 116 percent above the campaign's initial goal of $95,000, according to Glenna Shy, executive director of the Sikeston/Bootheel Area United Way.
"I don't think we have ever raised this much money," said Shy. "I've added it and added it and added it - It is just unreal!"
