Dorena-Hickman Ferry cruises river again

DORENA -- The Dorena-Hickman Ferry is back in action and better than ever.

As of Tuesday, the Ferry again began carrying vehicles across the Mississippi River, connecting Dorena with Hickman, Ky., after being out of service for nearly three months.

The ferry service was closed Nov. 17 so the tugboat could be upgraded with new two new diesel engines in St. Louis, a $200,000 project funded with a federal grant.

Ferry Captain Edward Floyd pilots the ferry downstream from Dorena to its Kentucky landing at Hickman, Ky. The ferry is now outfitted with two new diesel engines, a $200,000 project which was funded with a federal grant.
