NMCC falls in OT; Risco tops Hayti

JACKSON -- The New Madrid County Central Eagles rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit but fell in overtime to the Jackson Indians 54-50 on Friday night.

Jackson raced to a 19-6 lead after one quarter and held a 34-25 at the half but NMCC held the Indians to just eight points in both the third and fourth quarter, tying the game at 50-50.

NMCC failed to score in the overtime though as Jackson got a basket and two free throws from John Meyer to earn the win.

Freshman Willie Jimmerson led NMCC (8-12) with 13 points while seniors Lamonte Nelson and CJ Chism added 12 and 10 points respectively.

Risco 85, Hayti 80

HAYTI -- The Risco Tigers picked up a big road win on Friday, defeating Hayti 85-80.

Risco led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter before Hayti grabbed a one-point lead inside of three minutes to play. The Tigers made some key free throws down the stretch, however, and pulled out the win, improving to 18-2 on the season and handing Hayti their first home loss of the season.

"We need to do a better job of closing out games at the end but Hayti is a good team," said Risco coach Brandon Blankenship. "They're athletic and physical and it was a good test for us heading into the conference tournament. It was a good road win for us."

Chris Pavy led Risco with 30 points while Luke Bixler added 17. Jordon Pavy and Jeremey Fowler each scored 13 points.

Risco will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Monday when they take on Southland in the first round of the Tri-County Conference Tournament. Risco is seeded second in the nine team tournament being held at Clarkton.

Hayti rallied from a 24-point halftime deficit to win the junior varsity game 58-55. Risco was led by Brandon Bixler and Josh Earnheart who scored 18 and 17 points respectively.

The Risco junior varsity will play Wednesday in the Tri-County Tournament when the third-seeded Tigers take on Cooter.

Kennett 70, Dexter 63

KENNETT -- The Kennett Indians used a strong second quarter and held on to end Dexter's 10-game winning streak 70-63 on Friday night.

Kennett held a slim 12-11 after one frame but opened up a 34-26 lead at the half and dropped Dexter to 13-10 on the season.

Tyler Miller led Dexter with 23 points while Jake Lee added 21.
