CLARKTON -- The Risco Tigers came out strong in the second half and downed North Pemiscot 87-70 in the semifinals of the Tri-County Conference Tournament on Thursday.

Risco, who earned their 20th win of the season, will now take on Holcomb in the finals tonight at 7:30 p.m. Risco defeated Holcomb 74-64 on Dec. 2 and lost to the Hornets 72-67 on Jan. 20. Holcomb defeated Gideon 66-59 in the other semifinal.

The Tigers trailed 16-15 after one quarter and led 39-38 at the half but a strong third quarter gave Risco a 66-50 lead going into the final quarter.

"We talked about getting the game back to our pace," said Risco coach Brandon Blankenship. "We did a better job of getting out and running in the third quarter."

A big reason for the change in pace was Risco's defense. The Tigers forced only five turnovers in the first half but forced 12 in the second half, leading to easy layups.

"We did a better job defensively in the second half, putting pressure on them and forcing turnovers," Blankenship said. "It led to some easy baskets and then we hit some outside shots too."

Luke Bixler led Risco (20-2) with 24 points, including five 3-pointers. Jeremey Fowler scored 19 points while Austin White added 15 before fouling out. Chris Pavy and Brandon Bixler added 14 and 10 points respectively.

Risco lost in the semifinals of the junior varsity tournament 45-37 to Clarkton. Cody Young had 14 points for Risco who finishes at 10-8 on the season.
